State cybersecurity operations are maturing. Chief information officers at the state level report that compared with a few years ago, it is getting easier to fund needed investments around cybersecurity due to heightened awareness tied to high-profile hacks.
Vermont CIO John Quinn also holds the title "Secretary" over the relatively new Agency of Digital Services. At last month's NASCIO conference in San Diego, Quinn talked to Government Technology about plans now underway to move the state to a round-the-clock cybersecurity operation with the help of a partnership with Norwich University. An NSA Center of Excellence, Norwich is helping the state establish a security operations center by spring 2019.
