Upkey, a Chicago-based ed tech startup, will now offer its summer Virtual Internship Program (VIP) to 10,000 student applicants looking to build their professional networks through a variety of career readiness resources, according to a Tuesday news release.
According to the announcement, the program, set to run from July 5 through Aug. 27, connects students with companies through online learning and virtual internships where students get experience with companies such as Apple, Google, UBS, Guardian Life and McKinsey & Co.
Curriculum modules include entrepreneurship and innovation, content writing and media, consulting and strategic analysis, technology and product management, business leadership, marketing and communication, as well as finance and accounting.
The company says more than 5,000 students from 70 countries have so far completed the program, and 100 percent have qualified for three college credits through the program. According to the release, students ranging from high school to higher education have cited improvements in communication collaboration, social skills, creativity and critical thinking.
"As the class of 2021 approaches graduation, millions of students will face one of the toughest job markets in decades," CEO Amir Badr said in a news release. "Upkey's ed tech tools give students the flexibility to learn new career skills without being restricted by location or availability of resources. This benefits students, educators and recruiters alike — representing a crucial role in creating jobs for future generations."
